Together with Chiara Sonzogni, we discussed the meaning of the work we are carrying out with FirstLife on Agenda Digitale – Nextwork360: a civic platform for mapping territories from multiple perspectives, particularly that of women, developed by the Territories and Digital Communities Group of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Turin, of which I am a member.
In many cities, even today:
– public space is designed according to male and standardized models;
– technology risks reproducing invisibility and stereotypes, accentuated by artificial intelligence;
– the needs for care, safety, and accessible mobility remain marginal.
With FirstLife, however, we are trying to make the invisible visible, through collaborative data, local narratives, and a gendered perspective on the city.
The article is published in the “Digital Culture and Society” section of Agenda Digitale, underscoring how technology is not neutral, but profoundly intertwined with the ways we live and inhabit our spaces.
