Being present at Beijing +30 was a profoundly meaningful experience for me. I had followed the Beijing Conference in 1995 from afar and the Commission on the Status of Women in New York at the United Nations every year.
Being there, at such a complex and challenging moment in history, was thrilling. Sharing this adventure with my colleagues from UN Women Italy, Darya Majidi and Katja Besseghini, was also wonderful and engaging.
Seeing and meeting women and men from every continent made me experience firsthand the extraordinary collective strength we could marshal to build a different, fair, and peaceful world, far from the scenarios that today seem irreversibly imposed.
UN Women can do a lot to achieve the priorities identified in the Beijing +30 agenda, and so can we at UN Women Italy, building new alliances in an otherwise highly fragmented context. We are very clear about the problems and also part of the solutions.
We need to take action with collaboratively conceived projects and policies, taking advantage of new opportunities, starting with new technologies and artificial intelligence, which could be the real game-changer.
