On Tuesday, during the Women in AI Italy virtual luncheon, we had the pleasure of hearing Azzurra Ragone begin with a simple yet provocative question: “Is artificial intelligence really intelligent?”
This led to a conversation on the central theme of the day: Responsible AI.
A concept that concerns not only how we use AI, but above all its impact on society, people, and decision-making processes.
Azzurra guided us through three fundamental dimensions:
- Fairness – because responsible AI must be fair, inclusive, and capable of avoiding biases that could amplify inequalities.
- Explainability – because understanding how AI makes decisions is essential to building trust and ensuring accountability.
- Security – because secure systems protect not only data, but also the real consequences of algorithmic choices.
The real challenge is no longer simply using AI tools, but understanding their ethical, social, and cultural implications.
It means moving beyond the “wow” effect of technology and starting to question our responsibilities, impact, and vision for the future.
Thanks to Azzurra and the entire Women in AI Italy community for this always stimulating space for discussion.
