Yesterday morning, the new Orco Valley aqueduct was inaugurated in the hamlet of Praie in Locana (Turin): a long-awaited project that marks a decisive step forward in the management of water resources in the Canavese area.
In an increasingly climate-driven environment, even areas historically rich in water are now faced with new challenges.
Thanks to the use of water from the Gran Paradiso reservoirs and a network of over 140 km of pipelines, the new aqueduct guarantees greater continuity, quality, and reliability in supply.
This is a strategic investment of €250 million, achieved thanks to the expertise of SMAT-Società Metropoliana Acque Torino S.p.A. and the collaboration with Iren.
But there is one aspect that goes beyond the project itself.
Environmental sustainability and social inclusion can no longer be considered separately. Investing in resilient infrastructure also means ensuring equitable access to an essential resource like water, strengthening territorial cohesion and reducing inequalities.
Public policies must move in this direction: building sustainable development.
It is gratifying to see how the PNRR’s resources can be translated into concrete interventions capable of generating lasting value for the environment and communities.
