During the month dedicated to the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Torino Social Impact Community of Practice on Gender Equality, which I coordinate, met on Thursday, November 20th at the Italian Popular Culture Network, at the Tullio De Mauro Fund, for a moment of discussion and sharing experiences, tools, and approaches useful for building living and working environments truly free from gender-based violence.
The meeting was co-organized with two Torino Social Impact partners, Telefono Rosa Piemonte and Amapola, and featured a speech by Cristina Donalisio, a member of the Women’s Entrepreneurship Committee of the Turin Chamber of Commerce.
It was an opportunity to present the annual campaign by UN Women and UN Women Italy, Orange the World – Unite, which from November 25th to December 10th includes 16 days of activism dedicated this year to the issue of digital gender violence. This campaign is recognized by the color orange, symbolizing a future free from violence.
In my speech, I emphasized how violence against women is a widespread, transversal, and often underestimated phenomenon: “We tend to think of it as a problem far removed from us or our immediate environment. In reality, it has nothing to do with education level or socioeconomic status: it can occur in any context.”
A rich discussion followed, reminding us of the importance of continuing to build alliances, awareness, and concrete tools for change.
