Planning in Europe means making choices. Choices that speak to priorities, visions, and impacts.
And also to gender equality.
This is where the first meeting of 2026 of the Torino Social Impact Community of Practice on Gender Equality, which I coordinate, began. It was dedicated to European planning and gender mainstreaming in programs and best practices.
Hosted by Nuova Collaborazione and together with TSI-Weco, the European Projects HUB social enterprise, and Centro Studi Impacto, we worked on a seemingly simple question: how can we make gender mainstreaming a structural part of European project design?
In my opening remarks, I emphasized that gender equality is not a separate issue, but a key to understanding EU policies and programs across the board.
This led to practical implementation.
Alessia Ibba led the group of Erasmus+, CERV, and AMIF, demonstrating how gender mainstreaming is already embedded in the program architecture.
Valentina Crepaldi and Silvia Fazio then delved deeper, applying these principles to a real-life project, transforming criteria and key words into concrete choices.
A highly stimulating discussion ensued, even among those who had not previously had the opportunity to engage with gender mainstreaming, who understood that integrating the gender dimension is not just a matter of compliance, but of project quality.
