Gender Equality and Artificial Intelligence: from Proposals to Concrete Opportunities.
On Sunday, October 25th, at the Women Economic Forum Italy in Turin, I presented UN Women Italy’s ten proposals for transforming equality from a recognized principle into a reality in women’s lives.
Thank you for the invitation to Marilena Citelli Francese, president of the Women Economic Forum Italy, and to Chiara Corazza, president and founder of the WEF – Women Economic Forum Europe, for leading a rich discussion of diverse perspectives and for the opportunity to share the proposals presented recently in the Senate.
When women fail to enter the labor market or develop their careers, we lose talent, creativity, and ideas. We lose experiences and perspectives that can help us understand problems and find better solutions.
The ten proposals address the obstacles that accumulate throughout life: from IT in schools to early childhood education, from equal leave to economic autonomy, from pay transparency to the presence of women in decision-making roles, to community-based care services.
Artificial intelligence plays a central role in this journey. Access to digital skills and AI training throughout a working life can impact a person’s chances of finding a job, growing professionally, or returning after a break. This is why it must become an integral part of equality policies.
The discussion with Alberta Di Giuli, Paola Scarpa, Carlo Paris, Silvia Merlo, and Verónica Sosa allowed us to connect education, digital transformation, business, and leadership. These diverse experiences complemented each other, demonstrating the need to work together.
I hope that new opportunities for dialogue and collaboration will soon arise, to translate these proposals into concrete opportunities and give women a full voice in decisions about the future of work and technology.
