Gender equality requires a global community. And a forward-looking vision.
These are the concepts that emerged last week at the Annual Meeting of the 13 National Committees of UN Women, hosted for the first time in Italy, which I attended.
At a time when we are witnessing setbacks in women’s rights in many countries, being part of this international community takes on even greater value.
It means sharing experiences, building alliances, and feeling empowered to carry out a common commitment. What happens in one country affects everyone: gender equality has an international dimension that we must cultivate and strengthen.
Artificial intelligence and men involvement
From this discussion, I also take away two crucial themes for the future that we are working on at UN Women Italy.
The impact of artificial intelligence, which is transforming work, access to opportunities, and decision-making processes. We cannot ignore it: we must help guide this transformation, so that it reduces inequalities and enhances skills and talent.
The involvement of men, including through HeForShe. Changing cultures, organizations, and leadership models requires shared responsibility, which translates into concrete choices and behaviors.
An important recognition of this commitment is the election of Darya Majidi, President of UN Women Italy, as co-chair of the Standing Group that coordinates the National Committees.
