On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, SMAT – Società Metropolitana Acque Torino S.p.A. renewed its concrete commitment to preventing and combating gender-based violence, starting in the workplace and the communities in which it operates.
Achieving the Gender Equality Certification was not just a formality; it entails a daily commitment to promoting respect, inclusion, equal opportunities, and a safe environment for all.
On November 24th, the meeting “Work as a Safe Place” was held, offering an intense moment of reflection and awareness.
The event centered on the testimony of Valentina Pitzalis, who, through a conversation with Giusy Laganà, General Director of the nonprofit organization FARE X BENE, shared her story of courage and rebirth after surviving her ex-husband’s attempted femicide in 2011.
A story that Valentina calls a “fairytale in reverse,” from princess to ugly duckling, and which today represents a powerful call to recognize and combat all forms of violence.
During the meeting, the “SMAT Ambassador against Gender-Based Violence” project, promoted by the Libellula Foundation, was also presented: a program that will train corporate professionals capable of listening, intercepting signs of distress, and directing anyone who experiences, directly or indirectly, violence to the most appropriate services. This is an important step toward building a truly safe and caring work environment.
Smat also joined the “Orange the World – Unite” campaign, lighting the fountains on Via Roma in Turin orange: a symbolic act for the community.
Gender-based violence is fought with culture, targeted corporate policies, listening, and daily work.
I am pleased to have made my contribution as a member of the Smat Board of Directors.
